Safety.com has analyzed data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to determine the most dangerous states for young drivers (ages 15-20). This is in recognition of National Teen Driver Safety Week that took place in October.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration data provides a look at the percentage of state traffic fatalities involving young drivers.
In Kansas, 13.7% of serious vehicle crashes where a fatality occurred involved young drivers. When factoring in that 8.35% of the population of Kansas was between ages 15-20, this places the state in the top 20 most dangerous states for young drivers.
Oklahoma sits outside the top 10 at #11. The top five most dangerous states for young drivers are Rhode Island, Iowa, New Hampshire, Mississippi and Missouri.
