Coffeyville City Commission Candidates Participate in Forum

 

Five of the seven candidates for the Coffeyville City Commission participated in a candidates forum held Thursday evening at the Windsor Events Center.  Justin Doane, Don Edwards, Tracy Maxson, Jim Taylor, Sr. and Robert York discussed a variety of topics including housing, taxes, the city budget, declining population and growth.

 

Rudy Draper was expected to attend the forum but did not appear and Jim Taylor, Jr. had a previous business appointment out of town and was unable to attend.  The forum was sponsored by KGGF, the Coffeyville Chamber of Commerce and Eck Heat and Air.

 

A forum with candidates for the USD 445 Board of Education and the Coffeyville Community College Trustees will be held next Tuesday, October 29th at 6pm at the Windsor Events Center.  Last night’s forum was broadcast live on KGGF 690AM as will next week’s forum. Justin Doane said there is a critical need to construct new housing.

 

Robert York added that the city needs to find a way to keep people who work in Coffeyville, living in Coffeyville.

 

Don Edwards addressed taxes.

 

Jim Taylor, Sr. said the city's tax base is insufficient to support every citizen's requests.

 

Tracy Maxson said the city needs to find ways to maximize the dollars they do have.
