The United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Rural Housing Service Administration announced yesterday it is making $150 million in grants available to rural communities recovering from recent natural disasters in the area. Seventeen counties in Kansas' Second Congressional District are eligible for funding, including Cherokee, Montgomery, Neosho and Wilson Counties.
Representative Steve Watkins called the disaster assistance "vital" to farmers and ranchers still in recovery mode after recent flooding and tornadoes.
