The City of Independence confirms the death of a temporary city worker in a one-vehicle truck accident east of Independence today. Interim City Manager Kelly Passauer says the truck was traveling east on Highway 160 to the county landfill when it left the roadway shortly after noon today. Two workers, both temporary employees in the city’s Sanitation Department, were traveling in the vehicle. The second employee was also injured in the accident and was transported to a medical facility for care. His condition is unknown at this time.

Passauer says at this time, the cause of the accident is uncertain, but she and her fellow city leaders will work in full cooperation with law enforcement to thoroughly investigate the incident.
