Market Broiler Chickens Making Debut at Inter-State Fair

For the first time in the 111 years, market broiler chickens will be a part of the Inter-State Fair and Rodeo. The chickens will be a part of show, with the champion and reserve champion being sold during the livestock premium sale.

While many county and state fairs have allowed the showing of market broilers, this will be the first time it can be done at the Coffeyville event. An increased interest in poultry and the overall cost-effectiveness for youth were cited as two reasons for the change.

The chickens will be accepted in pens of three. While the champion and reserve champion will be sold during the premium sale, other market broilers shown during the event will be able to be sold to the public.

This year is the 111th rendition of the Inter-State Fair and Rodeo. Grandstand entertainment takes place nightly, from August 13-17.
