Coffeyville Street Drags Request Use of Airport

The Coffeyville City Commission discussed opening a section of the airport for the Coffeyville Street Drags which are held this year Apr. 27 and Sept. 28 . Leaders of Coffeyville Street Drags are asking for a paved or asphalt road to hold their events this year instead of the gravel road used for their drag races last year. Commissioners are concerned about the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) stipulations on the matter.

Commissioner Chris Williams assured them the City supports Coffeyville Street Drags, and City Manager Mark Hall suggests they submit an application to the FAA to see if they will approve the use of one of the airport hangars for this year's street drag. Finally, Mayor Paul Bauer gave Coffeyville Street Drags a thumbs up as long as FAA approves.

The city commission concluded with plans to provide Coffeyville Street Drags with an FAA application for use of Coffeyville Municipal Airport. The FAA might not have to shut down the aiport. KGGF will provide an update with more on this.
