An investigation by the Independence Police Department into a scam leads to an arrest. On December 16th Independence Police were dispatched to the 100 block of North Penn. An alert sales associate suspected a customer was attempting to make a large purchase under someone else’s name. After making contact with the suspect an investigation begin. The investigation revealed the suspect was calling the company’s customers posing as customer service. The suspect was able to obtain social security numbers, PIN’s, and other personal information. He was using this information to access customers’ accounts.
The man arrested was identified by Florida driver’s license as Nigel Duckett Thompkins-Wilson of Dallas, Texas. Thompkins was arrested for identity theft, identity fraud, felony attempted theft by deception, making false information, and forgery.
