The Independence Police Department announces they are ramping up crosswalk enforcement in December. IPD wants to remind motorists that state law requires drivers to yield to pedestrians that are using crosswalks. Starting next week officers will participate in traffic enforcement operations at crosswalks around town.

Police Chief Jerry Harrison says based on complaints from citizens and members of the Traffic Safety Committee he would guess that the two busiest crosswalks are at Locust and Penn and 11th and Main, because of traffic volume and complaints those are the two locations that will receive the heaviest enforcement.
