Funny money is back! And it’s not just dollar bills. Coffeyville Police Chief Kwin Bromley tells KGGF News he has had reports of now checks being faked and being passed. Bromley says he’s gotten more and more reports of funny money around town and says scammers are getting smarter every time. Washing checks, hiding counterfeit bills within a stack of valid ones, seemingly highlighting the bill to make it seem it's undergone a counterfeit pen, and many other ways scammers are evolving. Police Chief Bromley stresses to check your bills and checks now as these financial crimes are incredibly tough to solve and may be irreversible. It takes a few extra seconds to check over your bills even when you’re on the go or working hard. Bromley says if we start being extra conscious of the funny money now we can start taking these out of circulation, and it will be better for the town and town’s businesses.
