The riverside park in Independence is finishing up a new memorial!  After years of fundraising and planning, the new veterans and war memorial should be finished by Memorial Day Weekend. One of the project directors Kathy Sheppard Tells KGGF News the group raised 250,000 dollars for the memorial, put a bunch of hard work into it and are eager for the unveiling. She says they think it’s something not only people in Independence will enjoy but people from all over the country can come out to see. Years of fundraising and planning has finally paid off. The memorial will contain of granite tablets containing specific information of a particular wars and events dating all the way back to Revolutionary War. An informative and a great quality memorial is coming to south east Kansas. The memorial will be located at Riverside Park in Independence straight east of the stadium in the grass square.
