I.P.D. Officers Awarded

Coming face to face with a knife or gun is a reality every police officer has to face, but you’d never expect it right out of the gate. Officer Ty Lupardis and Officer Cook of the Independence Police Department, were dispatched to a trespassing call to a household and were allowed into the residence. After entering the residence they quickly noticed contraband and began the arrest. During the arrest the suspect became violent and waved a knife eventually slashing officer Lupardis. The two officers stuck to their training and were able to apprehend the individual without an further injuries. Now Officer Cook at the time was just a F.T.O (Field Training Officer) and was mere weeks out of the academy yet showed professionalism and knowledge of the scenario as a very new officer. Police Chief Jerry Harrison says that just goes to show how good the academy is and praised Lupardis for his training. He later awarded them with commendation awards for their courage.
