A Chetopa man lands in the Cherokee County Jail. 47-year-old Charles Robert Lawellin, Jr, was arrested on two warrants for felony theft. Cherokee County Sheriff David Groves tells KGGF News his office began investigating the man last year after learning of suspected fraud he was perpetrating on area residents. Lawellin allegedly scammed two residents out of over $10,000 which he required as down payments on buildings he was to construct, but never did.

Lawellin's bond was set at $20,000.
