An overnight water line rupture inside the Montgomery County Courthouse is Being described as devastating. Courthouse offices will be closed until further notice. The Montgomery County Tag Office in Coffeyville and Montgomery County Health Department, also in Coffeyville, will absorb operations for the Independence offices for the foreseeable future.
The water line rupture was discovered at 8 a.m., Saturday. The Chronicle reports a water line on the third floor burst overnight, sending tens of thousands of gallons of water pouring into the courthouse offices below — soaking the public works department, register of deeds office, county treasurer’s office and county clerk’s offices.
An early survey of damage on Saturday afternoon determined that most every computer terminal, telephone, adding machine, photocopier, and all office furnishings were damaged or ruined by repair, said Robert Bever, public works director.
ServPro out of Tulsa is overseeing the clean-up. They may also be given the contract to handle repairs.
